UPDATE: we recovered this piece from our archives, somehow this got written in 2021 and did not get published until this month.

It all traces back to a shared townhouse garage in Toronto’s North York neighborhood.

Four friends – all university students at the time – compiled a few instruments, and got together to make music without much of a plan. After a quickly-assembled self-titled EP, and a follow-up two years later, Janes Party dug in with the folk rock textures that extended organically from their experiences in school. This lead to 2019’s Casual Island which expanded their sound into more dance-friendly territory.

Fittingly, that driving energy is what informs 2022s release Live Again, and now the band – not to mention their ever-growing following – relish the opportunity to once again add to their live repertoire. "Ships On An Ocean" delivers a warm and gritty guitar flavor that pairs well with the indie rock material.

And if their latest output is any indication, they’re still having a great time out there.
